The Horrors
I’m thinking a lot about horror. Specifically TV and Movie horror. It’s by far one of my favourite genres. It brings forth feelings within me that no other type of movie or television does. And this goes waaaaay back. I remember the first time TV ever actually scared me, it was during an episode of Doctor Who called The Curse of Fenric, which dealt with a race of creatures called the Haemovores. Now not only were these creatures bloody terrifying but they just happened to come from underneath the North Sea which unfortunately for a 9 year old me, is adjacent to the city of Aberdeen where I grew up. Maybe that’s why I’m afraid of deep water? Who knows? What I do know is from that point on I loved horror. I particularly love a good ghost story. With a ghost story not only do you get the jump scares and that creepy sickly feeling but you generally get a really good plot to boot. It’s not gratuitous like slasher films are, it’s not wacky like Freddy was. The likes of The Conjuring or Paranormal Activity tap into something buried deep with us all…Fear. Right now I’m looking at the flipside. Right now I’m looking at what it means to be a ghost. Do you still have your human emotions? Can you still love? Or be irritated by things? What are your day to day problems? Do you get bored of wearing the same outfit day in and day out? What do you want as a ghost? What’s your endgame? Are you your own boss or do you follow a king? I’ve included a little concept art of a new character called The Ghost King, it’s rough and not even remotely his final design but I think you might like it. Until next time, be safe, be well and look after this life you’ve got. Who knows what horrors await…
