Organisation

It's Saturday morning and I've actually got a day off of my day job, which in itself is amazing.
My head has been swimming lately with the thought of our promo event happening in October.
Today, I'm going to wonder out into the streets of Aberdeen and make that happen. I've been looking at various locations and all have their benefits but there's a place I really want, and if I can get it? man, its going to be an excellent night.
It turns out that planning an event like this really flexes the imagination, and shows you how far you'll go to make it a success. In turn, this also reminds you how much you love your IP and how successful you want it to be. I've never planned anything like this before so it's going to be a major mission to do. I figured let's start at the core.
What's the point of the event? To promote The IOD.
Then I thought about what I learned working in a cinema.
How would I sell this product to my consumers?
I should have a table. A table cloth.
What's on that table Graeme? Books. A bowl with some badges to give away, stickers, bookmarks, postcards and flyers. How else can we promote at an event like this? What about social media? Then I started thing about QR codes. I could get one printed onto our tablecloth. That'll work.
But what about advertising Graeme? Ahhh I'm ahead of the curve on this one. For months on end, I've been thinking about flyers with our blurb, Logo and socials on it. I might get the team hoodies with the QR on it, have a bunch of stuff from business cards to ballpoint pens made up with that on it. Hand it out to everyone there. I also want to create special signed editions of the book with fancy gift bags and merch inside and create a special roller banner for use at stuff like this. I'm also thinking red, white, and black balloons to somehow stick to the table. Would that work? would that look cool? Aaaah! so many ideas!
But, as I've no doubt mentioned earlier, I love the internet and I can plan, design and have all of this delivered from the comfort of my chair. Ah consumerism. Love it.
Speaking of consumerism, how am I going to make some coin from this? Cash sale obviously, but is it possible to go digital? Turns out yes it is and we can absolutely get a card tapper! Noice!
I could go on and on and on about this subject but I'll leave you with this...
Sometimes, doing things that are outside your comfort zone can be a lot more fun than you ever imagined. So why not give it a try? Who knows how long you have left?
